Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why does an error message appear when I try to access help files from
the IPRO 5.x or IPRO 6.x programs?
A:This error occurs for Windows 2000 users only. To solve
the problem, delete the COMCTL32.DLL file from the IPRO Tech program directory.
Once this file is removed, you can access the help. Windows 95, 98, and NT users
do not have to remove the COMCTL32.DLL file.
Q: Why does an error message appear that states either the system is
improperly installed or the system is not authorized?
A:Either the system directory is not set or it is set to an
incorrect path.
Q: Why does an error message appear stating that the maximum number of
users have been exceeded when I start an IPRO Tech application?
A:Your authorization is set for specific modules and
applications that have a set number of users. If you exceed the number of users,
you cannot start another instance of a specific module or application.
Q: Why does an error message appear stating that OCX files are not
properly registered or installed?
A: Register the OCX files on that workstation by running
Suite Workstation.EXE.
Q: Why does the message "Bad Image" appear in the IPRO View title bar
when I load a project?
A: There are several reasons for a bad image error message.
However, the most common cause is that IPRO does not see the correct path to the
image location. If the images are on CD-ROM, verify that the CD directory
structure matches the .LFP file directory structure and that the CD has the
correct Volume Name.
Q: How do I set up a project for viewing in IPRO View?
- Open the System Configuration Program and choose Project
Setup from the menu bar.
- In the Project Setup dialog box, choose File > Import
Project Definition from the menu bar. This imports the .SFP file.
- Click Save to save the Project Setup.
- Click Cancel/Exit to close the Project Setup dialog box.
- Choose Utilities > Launch Utilities Program from the menu
bar. The Select Project dialog box appears.
- Double-click the project you just created.
- Choose Import > Import the LFP file from the menu bar.
- If the images are on CD-ROM, select Import and Search
Platter for Images to update the volume location.
- If the images are on a network or local hard drive, choose
Import > Direct Access Volume Path from the menu bar. A Direct Access path only
works with Stacked Tiff or IPRO Tech 5.3 IMG files.
- Type the volume name for the images.
- Type the complete path where the images reside.
- Exit the System Utility program and the System
Configuration program.
Scan-SUM FAQ Q: Can I use Scan-SUM with a
scanner that is connected to another computer on my network?
A: No. The scanner must be directly connected to the
computer on which Scan-SUM and iBlaze or LG Gold are running.
Q: I am trying to complete the installation but it is asking for a
registration number. Where is the registration number?
A: You will find the registration number in the e-mail you
received when you downloaded Scan-SUM.
Q: I started Scan-SUM but I’m seeing a message: “Warning unable to
connect to Summation. Please insure Summation is running.”
A: When you started Scan-SUM, it tried to start Summation
iBlaze or LG Gold but could not find the correct version of either program.
Either Summation iBlaze or LG Gold Version 2.0 December 2002 or later
is not installed on your computer or not all of the components are installed.
Contact Summation if you need an updated version of Summation iBlaze or LG Gold.
Q: I went to Scan New Document & clicked OK in the Starting BATES Number
dialog box but nothing happened.
A: You either need to open your case in iBlaze or LG Gold,
or you need scanning drivers. First, make sure that your case is open or create
a new case. If your case is open, your computer needs scanning drivers. Scanning
drivers are special programs that tell your scanner and software (like Scan-SUM)
how to work together to scan the images. You can either ask your system admin
for assistance, or you can go to the scanner company’s web site and download the
most recent drivers.
Q: Under Select TWAIN Scanner Source there are no Sources.
A: Your computer needs scanning drivers. Scanning drivers
are special programs that tell your scanner and software (like Scan-SUM) how to
work together to scan the images. You can either ask your system admin for
assistance, or you can go to the scanner company’s web site and download the
most recent drivers. The drivers must be on your local workstation.
Q: Why are there additional numbers at the end of the Bates number
(image key)? I didn’t enter these extra numbers into the Starting BATES Number
dialog box.
A: This happens if you choose a Bates number format that
ends in a letter. The extra numbers that Scan-SUM adds to this type of a Bates
number will serve as “counters” so that each image scanned will have a unique,
sequential Bates number. For example, if you renumber ABC-005 to ABC-005A,
Scan-SUM will turn this number into ABC-005A-0001. The next image scanned will
be ABC-005A-0002 (not ABC-005B).
Q: When I clicked the Load to Summation button, I got the error message,
"Load Process Aborted No Images Exist in Current Scan Session.”
A: There are no scanned images to load into Summation.
Click the Start Scan Session button to check if there are any scanned images.
Q: I see the error message, “Warning… Images have Not been Loaded into
Summation. Are you SURE You Want to Delete this Scan Session?”
A: This happens when you click the Delete Scan Session
button before you load the newly scanned images into Summation. If you want to
load the images into your case, click No. Then click the Load to Summation
button when you are ready to add the images to the case. If you are sure you
want to permanently delete the images, click Yes instead.
Q: How do I select the Summation case I want to load the images from
Scan-SUM into?
A: Click the Select/Change Case button, click the case to
highlight it, then click Select. Another option is to double click the case you
want to use.
Q: The wrong case name appears at the top of the Scan Session screen.
How do I change the Summation case?
A: First, choose File > Exit to close the scan session you
are in and return to the main Scan-SUM screen. Then, click the Select/Change
Case button. Click the case to highlight it, then click select. Another option
is to double click the case you want to use.
Q: How do I add a new Summation case?
A: Right click on the Summation Cases folder and select
Create Case.
Q: I was scanning an image and saw the message, “Source Message: No
Target Device!! (ID : 3056)”
A: First, make sure the scanner is turned on and that the
cables between the scanner and your computer are connected tightly.
If they are, choose Scan > Select TWAIN Scanner Source to open the Select Source
window and make sure you are using the correct scanner driver program. Pick the
scanner source (driver) for the scanner and click Select.
The scanner's drivers might not be installed properly, or they may be out of
date. You may want to go to the scanner company's web site and download the most
recent drivers.
You may want to refer to the scanner manual or contact your system admin for
assistance;
Q: I was scanning an image and saw the message, “Error Code 129 Can't
find scanner.”

window and make sure you are using the correct scanner driver program. Pick the
scanner source (driver) for the scanner and click Select.

Q: Some of the options in Scan-SUM are not working, and I am unable to
scan images.
A: The driver dialog box may be hiding behind the Scan-SUM
window. Look for the scanner driver dialog box on the task bar, or click the -
at the top of some of the other windows until you see the driver dialog box.
Q: I’m trying to scan but I see the message, “No paper in Auto Document
Feeder Please load paper, and try again.”
A: Readjust the paper so the scanner sensor detects the
paper.
Q: I’m getting the message: “Error Code 103 Paper Jam.”
A: (1.) Open the scanner in one or more places and look for
jammed papers. If you don’t find a paper jam, turn off the scanner for 10
seconds, then turn it back on. If that does not correct the problem, close
Scan-SUM, turn off the scanner, then restart the computer (in that order). After
the computer has restarted, turn the scanner back on and restart Scan-SUM. In
the Scan Session window, choose Scan > Select TWAIN Scanner Source. In the
Select Source window, select the scanner driver for the scanner you are trying
to use. Readjust the paper so the scanner sensor detects the paper. On certain
scanners, you might need to adjust the tray that feeds the paper into the
scanner to feed the paper at a different angle.
Q: Why am I getting a poor quality image?
A: There are usually a lot of settings that can be changed
in the driver dialog box. This dialog box depends on your individual scanner,
and appears after you choose Scan New Document in the Scan Session window and
click OK in the Starting Bates Number dialog box. Some common adjustments you
might want to try:
(1.) Increasing the resolution or DPI setting for a sharper or higher quality
image.
(2.) Changing the image type from black and white to color, depending on the
type of papers you are trying to scan.
(3.) If the image you scanned is black and you are trying to scan a stack of
papers, you might have selected the Flatbed option. Choose ADF (Automatic
Document Feeder) in the driver dialog box when you want the paper(s) fed through
the scanner.
Q: Why is part of the image is cut off?
A: Try clicking the "Fit Vertically" button in the Scan
Session window, above the image(s). This button has two arrows in a square, with
the arrows pointing up and down.
Check the paper size in the scanner driver dialog box. A common choice is letter
size which is 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall.
Some scanner drivers have an option to scan the paper "portrait" (feeding the
top of the paper first) or "landscape" (feeding the left or right edge of the
page first). Make sure the scanner driver dialog box reflects the way you are
feeding the pages.
Q: Why are there blank (white) images that sometimes have a black border
on the side?
A: When you are trying to prevent blank pages from being
scanned, you must also checkmark the option Scan > Use Blank Page as Doc
Separator. If this option is not selected, click it to select it. In the scanner
driver dialog box, crop the black border that appears around the previewed
image.
If the scanned images have a lot of blotches, choose Scan > Modify Blank Page
Threshold and gradually increase the Threshold until the images you add to the
session no longer have blotches. If you set the Threshold too high, you will
lose punctuation marks as well, and could even lose letters. Changing the
Threshold setting will not remove blotches from the images you already scanned,
so you may want to rescan them.
Q: Why is the size of the image file so large?
A: High quality images create larger files.
Q: I deleted a page, but I can still see the image in Scan-SUM.
A: The image will disappear when you scan the next image or
when you close and restart Scan-SUM.
Q: Why are all of the images that I scanned marked as documents?
A: In the Scan Session window under Scan > Scan Single Page
Docs, there is a checkmark. Click Scan Single Page Docs to remove the checkmark
and turn off this option.
